‘Tis the time of year for round ups, lists and rampant conusmerism. SO what are the top 10 services and trends for the discerning marketer to buy-in to for Christmas?

  1. Content marketing is the must have item for any organisation that wants to keep up with the times. Coke have announced their Content 2020 project with the release of this video from the guys behind RSA animate. Old fashioned advertising won’t cut it any more.
  2. Go digital with your content marketing. The APA reports that 48% of the content marketing pie is accounted for by digital compared with 10% in 2005. So print magazines for your Uncle Patrick and maybe something on your iPad for your niece, Gemma.
  3. Like a Christmas Hyacinth, green shoots of economic recovery are on their way. Mintel tell us that the Content Marketing industry can expect a growth on 10% in 2012 attributed to the consumer demand for branded content.
  4. B2B comms using digital platforms are going to be in great demand. The APA show that the b2b digital comms market grew from a 4% share to 17% in 2011. Apple are really making inroads into the business sector with the iPad with the help of Tekserve and developers like us. See the iPad at work here.
  5. Ok so you already have an iPhone 4s and Siri has blocked out your calendar to account for Christmas party hangovers but there is huge growth to come in the mobile market. There are 1.5bn TV’s globally but 4bn mobiles and smartphone penetration rapidly approaches 30%. You do the math media agency.
  6. If you haven’t got a tablet strategy yet, get one. Ericsson predict that by 2016, tablet distribution will be 550m. In context, at the height of the dotcom boom, global internet usage was less than 300m.
  7. Get an Editor-in-chief. McKinsey ask on the Harvard Business Review blog - “What is your publishing strategy and who is your brand’s editor in chief?
  8. iPad ads. They really work. Apparently twice as well as those on the web. This infographic shows that mobile commerce is expected to grow to $31bn in the US from $3bn in 2010.
  9. You have a social strategy? Got a mobile strategy? Then you’ll LOVE mobile social strategy. There’s been 44% growth in social networking via mobile in Europe.
  10. Socks

What’s that? Spent all your budget? Why not try the January sales?
